NOTES

2 -- His birth is recorded as "        Golthier", son of Joseph H and Ella S. It's not clear why his father would use his "dit" ("alias") surname ("Golthier") rather than his correct surname ("LaRouche"), but a possible explanation can be gleaned from some other entries in the Massachusetts Vital Records.

For example, his parents married in September 1898, when he was over two years old. His father had previously married, at Fall River, Mass., on 2 April 1894 [Mass VRs Marriages 1894 442:156, no. 466], Marie L. Chagnon, age 19, born in Canada, daughter of Joseph and Clara (Dureau). No record has been located to show what happened to Marie, or to her marriage with Joseph.

7 -- HFL 184: "Martha H., born December 2, 1860, married George Weir, a minister in the Congregational Church, March 4, 1890. He was born in Scotland, December 1, 1860, and came to America with his parents when eight years of age. They reside at Greenwich, Ohio, and have three children: Denslow Wood, born March 13, 1891; Jessie Lenore, born November 12, 1894; Esther Jennie, born June 13, 1900."

For her sister's ancestry, see http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=AHN&db=:2650669&id=I5774.

10 -- Lorenzo J. Lougee, of Newfield, ME, enlisted 15 Oct 1862 (age 19) in Co. K, 27th ME Infantry; mustered out 17 Jul 1863 in Portland, ME

11 -- Ella S. Lougee, guardian, applied for widow's pension for Lorenzo J. Lougee (K 21 Maine Inf.) 23 Oct 1893 from MA; appl. #584,891, cert. #558,750

A plausible reason for Ella (Lorenzo's daughter) acting as guardian for Annie (Ella's mother and Lorenzo's widow) might be gleaned from Annie's residence in 1900 as a patient in the Danvers Insane Hospital. See the Census entry above.

14 -- HFL 183-184: "Daniel H. Wood was born November 15, 1838. He is a minister of exceptional ability in the Society of Friends. He married Caroline A. Starr, March 4, 1860, and resides at the old homestead near Bennington, Ohio."

29 -- HFL 182: "Elizabeth Benedict, daughter of Aaron and Esther, was born May 29, 1798, at Peru, New York. She married Daniel Wood, a minister in the Society of Friends. She was his second wife."

59 -- HFL 180: "Esther Lancaster, daughter of Aaron and Sarah, was born April 20, 1776, and died September 25, 1825. She married Aaron, son of Aaron and Elizabeth (Knowls) Benedict, July 25 1793. He was born November 25, 1769, and died July 17, 1825. They removed from Peru, Clinton County, New York, in 1812, and settled in the Alum Creek settlement, in Delaware County, Ohio (now Morrow County). The region was then a vast wilderness and their nearest neighbor lived twelve miles distant. They were earnest Christians and were active in organizing a Friends' church in 1817."

118 -- HFL 143-144: "Aaron Lancaster, the eleventh child of Thomas and Phebe Wardell-Lancaster, was born 11th mo. 24, 1744, and died 3rd mo. 29, 1786. He received thirty-nine acres of his father's farm as his allotment of the estate. [various Quaker records] He married Sarah, daughter of Benjamin and Mary Palmer, 9th mo. 17, 1767. She was born 9th mo. 17, 1748, and was the sixth child of a family of eleven children."

236 -- HFL 18-22: "Upon her [Ann Chapman's] return from England in May or June, 1711-12, after one of such gospel journeys, she brought with her Thomas Lancaster, a youth of about nine years of age, who became the ancestor of those mentioned in this volume. On the 19th of the 8th mo., 1725, he married Phebe Wardell, in the Wrightstown meeting of Friends. She appears to have been a resident of Wrightstown at that time. Phebe was a daughter of John Wardell, a native of Wales. He was a minister of the Society of Friends, and came with his daughter, Phebe, to North America, and settled at Boston. He afterwards removed to Wrightstown, Pennsylvania. Phebe is said to have been a beautiful woman, bright and intelligent. Thomas and Phebe Lancaster were both ministers in the Society of Friends. They resided at Wrightstown until about 1740, when they removed to Richland Township in Bucks County. [account of journey to Barbadoes] The health of Thomas Lancaster had become impaired by the climate on the Islands, and he died on his way home and was buried at sea. After the death of her [Phebe's] last husband, she returned to Richland and spent the remainder of her life with her son, John Lancaster, at the old homestead, where she died in her ninety-sixth year."

FURTHER NOTES

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) publishes a Patriot Index, a list of persons whose honorable service in the cause of independence during the American Revolution renders their female descendants eligible for membership in the NSDAR. Several ancestors of Lyndon LaRouche appear in the Patriot Index, including:

    Timothy Starr (number 120)

While Mr. LaRouche is not eligible for membership in the NSDAR (by not being female), he is eligible for membership in the equivalent organization for men, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
