NOTES

1 -- The "Robertson" article in Living Descendants of Blood Royal, vol. III, pp. 556-558, which mentions Pat Robertson in the middle of p. 556, and which is reprinted in toto at http://www.patrobertson.com/Family/Bloodline.asp, is extremely vague on the generations between, on the one hand, the Colonial immigrants, and their claimed Royal descents (some of which are inaccurate), and, on the other hand, Rev. Robertson's parents. Other sources have been used to fill in the intermediate generations.

14 -- Encyclopedia of Southern Baptists, vol. 3 [Nashville: Broadman Press, 1971], p. 1758: "Holman, Russell (b. Warwick, Franklin County, Mass., Aug. 14, 1812; d. Marshall, Mo., Dec. 2, 1879). Pastor, missionary, and denominational leader. ... he entered Brown University c. 1837. In 1838 he went to Kentucky as an agent for a publication house. He then became pastor of Pitman Creek Church, Green County, Ky., which ordained him on July 29, 1840. In somewhat poor health, he went to New Orleans as a missionary with the American Baptist Home Mission Society (c. 1843) and founded the first Baptist church in that city. ... Between 1851 and 1856 he assumed a professorship of mathematics at Howard College and several pastorates in Alabama. ... Between 1862 and 1865 Holman served as an evangelist in the Confederate Army. ... In 1867 the Baptist church in Chillicothe, Ill., called him as their pastor. In 1870 Holman suffered a stroke and, hoping for a more favorable climate, moved to Saline County, Mo. ... In 1876 he suffered a second stroke which incapacitated him, forcing him to retire permanently from the pastorate."

FURTHER NOTES

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) publishes a Patriot Index, a list of persons whose honorable service in the cause of independence during the American Revolution renders their female descendants eligible for membership in the NSDAR. Several ancestors of Pat Robertson appear in the Patriot Index, including:

    Anthony Garnett (number 162)
    Reuben Garnett (number 82)
    Churchill Gordon (number 44)
    James Gordon (number 84)
    William Twyman (number 166)
    William Willis (number 80)

While Mr. Robertson is not eligible for membership in the NSDAR (by not being female), he is eligible for membership in the equivalent organization for men, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
