12 -- History of King County Washington [Chicago: 1929], vol. 2, pp. 516-18: "A native of Iowa, he [J. W. Maxwell] was born September 8, 1864, a son of Dr. Thomas G. and Mary Louise (Woodworth) Maxwell, who went to Nebraska in 1861 and the father aided in laying out the town of Lincoln. He was the first physician in that part of the state and his practice was drawn from a wide area. The mother passed away in Nebraska and in 1880 he migrated to California, settling in Santa Barbara, where he spent the remainder of his life. ... Mr. Maxwell was married October 23, 1889, to Miss Belle Oakley, a native of Dunkirk, New York, and a daughter of O. R. and Belle (Thompson) Oakley. Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell have become the parents of two sons. ... The younger son, James Willard, Jr., was graduated from the University of Washington and fills a responsible position in the bond department of the National Bank of Commerce. He married Miss Adele Thompson, of Enumclaw, Washington, and both are prominent in social circles of Seattle."

60 -- http://www.washington.historylink.org/output.cfm?file_id=5348: "As was the case during the earliest period of settlement, from 1846 until the turn of the century, Irish were often the first and leading settlers in various regions of Washington state. Many of the sixty-niners, naturalized Irish who served as enlisted men in the United States Army Cavalry at the Vancouver Barracks and Fort Nisqually, remained after their terms ended. Among them was William O'Leary from Cork County, Ireland, who settled on the south shore of Grays Harbor in 1848. The family of Irishman William Medcalf and his English wife, Martha Ann, followed O'Leary a bachelor. They were the first white family to settle near the lower Chehalis River. While O'Leary and Medcalf farmed, others turned to mining or business related to mining, lumber, or transportation."

http://www.montesano.us/montesano_welcomes_you_westbound.htm: "Another settler, William Medcalf, was the first settler to build on land north of the Chehalis River in the area of present-day Montesano proper. Together, Mrs. Medcalf and Mrs. Scammon established the first regular church, the Methodist church, In 1869. Rev. J.S. Douglas became the community's first assigned minister."

Later: it would appear that the chances are good that #101 is in fact the daughter of William Cous(e) and Wei(gh)ty Parks, since Wei(gh)ty married (2nd marriage for both) Joseph Woodworth, #100 Luther Woodworth's father. For this, see the page of Revolutionary War soldiers of Cattaraugus Co., NY, at http://www.paintedhills.org/CATTARAUGUS/cattrevsoldiers.html: "Woodworth, Joseph Born 1756 in Old Lebanon, Conn. Died May 21, 1842 at Napoli, Catt. Co., NY. Buried at Elm Creek. Served four years in the Revolution from Conn. Enlisted Jan. 1, 1776 in Capt. Dyer's Co.; Col. Durkee's Regiment. They settled on his father's homestead in North Salem, and there died-he May 5, 1812, and she Sept. 23, 1832, and were buried in the North Salem Cemetery. His will was dated Feb. 25, 1805."

426 -- Several undocumented Internet sites present this descent of Aaron Jaqua from James Chilton, a Mayflower passenger:

James Chilton
Isabel Chilton m. Roger Chandler
Martha Chandler m. John Bundy
James Bundy m. Mary Briggs
Lydia Bundy m. Ebenezer Jakques
Aaron Jaqua (number 426, above)

The descent is false. See Mayflower families through five generations, vol. 15 [1997], pp. 27-28, which shows that there is no evidence that James Bundy and his wife Mary --- (not Briggs) had a daughter Lydia.

816 -- GLIF 1:190-1: "Robert Brush ... born at Huntington, L.I., 30 June 1685; married first Isabella or Isabel Weeks of Oyster Bay, daughter of Thomas Weeks and Isabella Harcourt....Robert Brush was living on 11 Jan. 1758....He evidently was dead by 20 June 1766 when William Nicolls, hatter, took the earmark of Robert Brush."

828 -- Rockwell 9: "Joseph Keeler, born at Norwalk 1683; married Elizabeth Whitney, daughter of John and Elizabeth Smith Whitney; they settled in Ridgefield. He was a carpenter, and as early as 1715, by a town meeting, he was appointed to repair the meeting house, and in 1716 he was elected lister and sealer of weights and measures, and Dec. 20, 1722, surveyor; and in 1725, one of a committee to fix the line betwixt Norwalk and Ridgefield. In 1735 he was a Justice of the Peace and the town miller, and for several years afterwards. He died Nov. 29, 1757, at 74; she died March 17, 1763, at 79."

1632 -- Cutter 4:1698 - "Richard, son of Thomas Brush, settled on West Neck, on the south shore of Lloyd's Harbor. This property remained in the possession of his descendants until 1898. Like his father, he was a town officer, a commissioner to lay out lands and roads, and in 1683 one of the seven trustees annually elected under the new patent."

Corrected by GLIF 1:177-9: "Richard Brush, born about 1640, probably in England, is indicated as a brother of Thomas Brush. Presumably he was the Richard Brush, aged 18, servant of Mr. Joseph Cooke of Cambridge, Mass., who testified in the Court at Cambridge on 6 April 1658....Richard Brush was a home-owner in Huntington by 1 January 1668....About this time he married Joanna Sammis, born about 1648, daughter of Richard Sammis of Windsor, Conn. Because of most plausible circumstantial evidence it is frequently stated that Richard Brush married Joanna Corey. His marriage to Joanna or Johanna Sammis, however, is proved by the Hartford, Conn., /Probate Court Records/, long in print....Richard Brush was dead by 10 Nov. 1714. Probably his widow was the Mrs. Brush, frequently called 'Granny Brush,' who appears steadily in the account books of Henry Lloyd between 1716 and 1728 as housekeeper, spinner and midwife."

1658 -- Cutter 1:21 - "John, son of Henry Whitney, was born before his father went to Southold, died in 1720. He had a grant of land January 20, 1665, at Norwalk, where he settled with his father. He was also a miller and millwright, and succeeded his father as owner of the Norwalk mill and homestead."

FURTHER NOTES

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) publishes a Patriot Index, a list of persons whose honorable service in the cause of independence during the American Revolution renders their female descendants eligible for membership in the NSDAR. Several ancestors of Bill Gates appear in the Patriot Index, including:

    Daniel Brush (number 204)
    Sylvanus Gibbs (number 214)
    Joseph Woodworth (number 200)

While Mr. Gates is not eligible for membership in the NSDAR (by not being female), he is eligible for membership in the equivalent organization for men, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
