The Ancestors and Relatives of Richard Wevill

A plausible continuation of the ancestry of William Addams Reitwiesner

by William Addams Reitwiesner

Richard Wevill, my ancestor number 116, emigrated from the West Counties of England to Philadelphia. To the best of my knowledge, his origin and ancestry has not been established.

Charles Ronald Bruce Nichols, in Wyvill-Wevill of Constable Burton and "Trevell" Lewannick Cornwall, Third Edition [1996], says on page 30 that Richard Wevill, later of Philadelphia, is the Richard Wevill who was christened on 24 October 1759 at Lewannick in Cornwall. My thanks to Jean Banowit, another descendant of Richard Wevill, who provided the reference to Nichols' work.

This webpage, below, is an exploration of the ancestry of the Richard Wevill christened 24 October 1759 at Lewannick. The numbering in parentheses is numbered from me and is based on the assumption that the connection claimed by Nichols is correct. The information on the ancestry of Richard's mother, Joan Luskey, was extracted from several WorldConnect databases, specifically http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=AHN&db=sampsonx&id=IND00940 and http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=AHN&db=dalmanic&id=I30509. Many of the events listed below (christenings, marriages, etc.) also appear in the IGI.

FURTHER NOTES

The baptismal entry for John Wevill, number 2 (232) above, does not name his parents. His parents may be the John Weevell and Katherine Joll who married on 25 April 1713 in Lewannick.
