NOTES

1 (6862) -- Thomas Delavall's parentage and ancestry has not been determined. James Riker, in his Revised history of Harlem [1904], says, on p. 232, that Thomas Delavall was a son of Thomas Delavall, a son of Sir Ralph Delavall, of Seaton Delavall, who was knighted in 1660. Sir Ralph was actually created a Baronet on 29 June 1660. Riker's claim is chronologically impossible, as Sir Ralph married in April 1646, Thomas (the Mayor) would have had to have been a son of a younger son of Sir Ralph (as the Mayor's branch never inherited the Baronetcy), and Thomas (the Mayor) had children marrying as early as 1678 -- less than 10 years per generation.

Examination of the pedigrees of the various branches of the Delaval/Delavall families in Northamptonshire (and elsewhere) show no obvious candidates for Thomas Delavall.
