NOTES

1 -- The first few generations of the above material was extracted from http://freepages/genealogy/rootsweb/ancestry/com/~bart/LEONARD3.htm.

1 -- Anne is occasionally said, without evidence, to have been "Anne Brook".

Anne, in her will, bequeaths to her sister Mary Farrington her [Anne's] half part of the house where she [Anne] lives and where Edward Griffen lately lived, and also the 2 acres of land in Perth Amboy east of Market Street which formerly belonged to her [Anne's] father-in-law [step-father?] Benjamin Griffith, and afterwards to her [Anne's] mother.

Mary Farrington's will was dated Perth Amboy 21 Aug. 1760, proved 19 Dec. 1760.

4 -- A son of John Brown Lawrence by Martha Tallman was Capt. James Lawrence, USN (1781-1813), commander of the frigate Chesapeake, who, mortally wounded by small arms fire, famously ordered "Don't give up the ship".

10 -- Mrs. Elizabeth Lawrence Kearny wrote under the pseudonym of "Madam Scribblerus".

12 -- From 1880 to his death, Poole England was Master Gunner, St James Park.

13 c -- Thomas Thompson Ellis, a "dental physician" and notorious confidence man, was convicted, 20 Feb. 1860 in New York City, of grand larceny and sentenced to three years and six months of hard labor in the New York State Prison. See New York Times, 21 Feb. 1860, p. 3.

14 a -- Rt Rev Thomas Brock Fuller was the first Bishop of Niagara.
