NOTES

1 -- Pierre Moillet left Bergicourt, near Péronne, in Picardy, on 21 Sept. 1789 for Cap François, in Saint Domingue (now Santo Domingo, on the island of Hispanola). After the uprising there led by Toussaint L'Ouverture, Pierre ended up in Philadelphia, where he was known as "Peter Picard".

P. M. Picard of France was naturalized in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. The date of his Declaration of Intent was 18 April 1804.

On 8 Dec. 1815, Pierre's younger son Jean Louis Eugene Moillet wrote to Pierre in Philadelphia from Herbécourt, where he (Jean) was living with a wife and small children. In the letter, Jean states that his older brother (unnamed in the letter) had been wounded in battle and had died in Paris.

On 14 March 1836, J. Pelegrini, avocat, Rue Meuve, St. Augustin No. 50, Paris, wrote (in English) to the Moillet family in Philadelphia about an inheritance they could receive. William Stephens (Pierre Moillet's son-in-law) wrote back on 13 June 1836, but no further correspondence ensued.
